FIELD SANTO YUNGAY
In the route towards the north, through the alley of Huaylas, it is passed by places where were the cities destroyed by the earthquake and alluvium of the 31 of May of 1970.
The vision is moving. Thousands of tons of rocks and earth cover the houses totally, buildings and temples of which were the colorful and calm cities of Ranrahirca and Yungay, where lie buried his almost 25 thousand inhabitants.
Towards the west, to the bottom of the summit of the hill where is the cemetery, a great sculpture of Christ appears with the arms extended in pathetic gesture of mercy. Towards the east, it shows formidable and threatening the snow-covered summit of the Huascarán, from whose mass tons of rocks and snow were given off with the earthquake that caused the tragedy.
