KUELAP FORTRESS
Located to 3,000 msnm, in amazonian "andes" of the Amazonas Department, Kuélap is the prove of the infinite skill of Chachapoyas, people that inhabited the zone between years 1000 and 1400 b.C..
The gigantic wall that protect the city, it is composed by sentry posts, a tower and solely three close entry which they could be defended by a single soldier, the wall reaches 8 meters from the bottom to the top and it surrounds completely. It must imagine the complex like an unattainable place for the invaders of neighboring kingdoms although finally, Quechuas of Imperio Incaico, won to Chachapoyas.
The city is of stone, but unlike the architecture Inca, these are carved with anthropomorphic reasons and animals. Also they changed the positioning pattern to obtain geometric designs.
The most common houses were of circular base, some have reconstructed for the visitors; very few because is difficult to access Kuélap, can intuit the life in the place, surrounded by orquídeas and bromelias.
The old integration of the Peruvian with the nature is an amazing lesson. Chachapoyas, whose secrets are kept by the thickness of the foliage, created harmony in a privileged place, a site without time, where the tops of mountains are kissed by clouds.
