DISTRICT OF MAGDALENA OF THE SEA

The history of Magdalena goes back to the times of the Taulichusco cacique, being part of his señorío. Later, at the virreinal time, it was seat of the properties "Zavala" and "Oyague".

In 1857, the President Don Ramon Castile got to promulgate a Decree being named Together of Notables in the isolated towns of Lima, between which was Magdalena. Soon, Ricardo King and Basadre, Rodolfo de Rutte and Felix Dibos, undertakes the creation of a new city and buys lands where the 1 of 1872 July founds it with the name of Marbella.

The 10 of May of 1920, the Congress acceded to the request of remarkable neighbors and by Law no. 4101 it officially creates the district of Magdalena of the Sea, with capital the town of the same name. With President Manuel Prado Ugarteche one rises to the category of city.

Sites of Interest

Immaculate Heart of Maria:

The Monument to the Immaculate Heart of Maria was inaugurated the 05 of Julio of 1996, in tribute to the deep catholic faith of the community of Magdalena of the Sea.

In the place, the image of the Virgin was placed who was in the church of the Immaculate Heart of Maria. It measures 6,50 m.s of height and 4 tons of weight and was placed on a solid cement column of 12 meters of stop and two beams that support the column forming an angle of 60º with Vista to the Av. Monument to Jose Gabriel Condorcanqui (Túpac Amaru II).

The Monument to Túpac Amaru II - precursory of National Independence this constituted by a bronze statue maintained in a pedestal inspired by the architecture of the strengths of Sacsayhuamán and Machu Picchu.

Monument to Colonel Leoncio Prado.

Bust of bronze, monument in memory of Colonel Leoncio Prado, to perennizar its heroísmo. The statue this located in the Park of the same name. It was inaugurated the 9 of December of 1957, being President of the Republic the Dr Manuel Prado Ugarteche.
